Challenging assumptions

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I’ve got a new job and a new home. I’m biking to work now and leaving the car behind. In short, a lot has changed lately in my life.

As a result of these changes, I’ve been thinking about what I really need in life. For instance, I’ve always assumed I need to have a job. Uncle dream

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

I woke this morning with a dream in my head in which I saw my late Uncle Don. I did not interact with him much: it seemed he was more a character in my dream rather than the real, live person I knew.  I woke with the dream fragments in the back of my mind and went on about my day.

Fast forward to the evening. I’ve been taking a weekly class which showcases the services that the City of Raleigh offers its citizens. Tonight’s presentation was on Raleigh’s Community Development services. I was enjoying the presentation of the director of the program when someone in the room said something humorous. Right then, the director began to laugh.

I noticed it instantly: he had the same distinctive laugh my uncle had! It was then that I noticed that at certain angles he had an uncanny resemblance to my uncle!

I chuckled through the rest of the presentation, realizing the “uncle” I’d seen in my dream was standing right before me.
