Perhaps not enough, but if you don't have equipment that's decent for living voices, you certainly cannot expect it to perform for discarnate voices.

An idea I have for recording EVP involves using parabolic microphones: like the kind you see on the sidelines of football games. I would think these would be able to pick up sound waves while avoiding electrical interference. Both are logarithmic in nature but the plastic dish will only amplify the sound waves (assuming sound waves are being used here and not something else entirely).

Ah well. It's much easier being an armchair quarterback/ghost hunter!

It's not enough, Mark. Many years ago I was part of a small group that explored a variety of things, and one of the things was the leader of the group channeling. At the time I was a total skeptic about everything, particularly that. The way her face seemed to shift kind of freaked me out, but I had a hypnosis background so I still figured it was just something subconscious. Each channeling night, one of the women took notes. One night I decided I was going to record it; it would be easier than shorthand and the woman could participate more. I had a decent 4-track recorder, a long cord and a lapel mike. I had the recorder in the next room (because that's where the available plug was) and the mike line running into the living room and clipped on her shirt.

When it was all over we sat down to transcribe it. When the recording began, she was sitting in her rocker-recliner, a small asian woman who was talking very quietly to the people in the room. Although we knew she'd been extremely quiet (we were there after all), you could hear her very clearly on the recording, the lapel mike worked well.

And then suddenly electronic noise -- major hiss -- hit, just at the moment when "they came through" as she might have put it. After that, she had been talking in a booming, very loud voice -- but you couldn't much hear it on the tape. We turned it up, we listened carefully, but it sounded like the booming voice was waaaaay off on Mars -- we couldn't even transcribe it; the interference was much too strong.

So in that case, the bizarre and terrible quality of the recording wasn't about a problem with the equipment quality. The actual EFFECT of the thing being recorded caused distortion in the electronic field.

Well it was a nice idea.

I've heard electronic voice phenomenon just once. This was also back during my skeptic days, in fact I was brought along on this outing pointedly because of that. I can't speak to its reality or not. I can only say that it had a rather fascinating anomaly with me. I heard it, sitting in someone's house, on their reel-to-reel tape recorder they'd taken to some late-night seance outdoors. It was disturbing in how low-pitched it was but it seemed to be very slow is why. When I walked outside the front door to mention it to my friend, I suddenly forgot what it had said. So I went back indoors and asked to hear it again. When I left the house, it left my brain. I was laughing about that now, and I went back again, taking my friend in with me. I heard it again, and felt totally certain I wasn't going to forget it this time, after the third time. Driving home, I realized that yet again, I had no idea what it had said. Go figure.

Well, you have asked for videos demonstrating the same abilities as Shannan.
Well, here they are. I have two videos. One is of me bending spoons in the exact same manner as Shannan but with NO 'energy'. I use the same techniques and end up with a spoon just as warped. Then just to go a step further, I also have a video of me doing the same style of spoon bend with only one hand. If this does not convince you that it is possible without the woo-woo, then nothing will. Check out what Dennis Rogers does to an 8" industrial wrench or to 1" thick stainless steel hammer. All with no special abilities other than strength and knowledge.

2 years ago I was having a similar experience when I was attempting to fall asleep. I would lay in bed and suddenly memories from my childhood would flood my mind, things I hadn't remembered in many years. These memories would playback so vividly that it was as if I was there. The vividness of these memories prevented me from going to sleep. I would stay awake for 2-3 hours jumping from memory to memory as they linked up. This hasn't happened to me in awhile.

Your commentary is heavily skewed. You fail to inform readers that rather than being a "fanatical skeptic" I infact took the dispute through a very careful, very proper U.S. court system. The result of that process --- one where Noreen Renier was constantly allowed a voice --- was something you fail to mention. You also fail to mention that two months before you wrote your comments a Washington federal court ruled against Noreen Renier. That court placed a federal judgment against her --- a VERY strong ruling indicating she breached her own legal agreement that she herself previously signed. This judgment didn't come from a "fanatical skeptic" but rather after a long analysis before one of our highest courts, and where Noreen Renier herself was constantly defended. For a more complete and certainly balanced response I encourage readers to read www.amindformurder.com As of January 13, 2007 the conclusion of this case --- setting the damages due me since I have won the judgment decision --- is set for early February, 2007. I cannot help but wonder why defenders of Noreen Renier do not point inward and ask themselves why they wish to support a woman who passed on a fantasy she created about the deaths of four people who died in an aircraft crash, and then told the fantasy before millions of television viewers. Is the truth about this psychic fantasy --- coming from one of the most media savvy psychics in the world --- so difficult to accept? You were likely bamboozled, so please don't now place your frustration upon the messenger. Read and learn. And read the entire web site completely if you really want to understand the truth.

Welcome to my blog, Mr. Merrell. It is where I hold forth with my opinions and commentary on whatever suits my fancy. As such it is heavily, nay, gloriously skewed to reflect my whims, attitudes, and beliefs.

The truth as I see it is that is a number of law enforcement officers stand by Noreen's account. I take their word over yours. That Noreen may or may not have breached any settlement between you does not affect my belief in her integrity.

Also of note -- You also do not note that there are a variety of damages I may now claim --- not just the rather niche non-pecunairy type. Indeed the settlement agreement that the U.S. court said Noreen Renier breached provides full reimbursement of all legal costs --- which will likely exceed $50,000 alone just for mine and another estimated $60,000 for Renier's --- even before additional damages of the type I seek. Renier's portrayal of events before the public have not always been accurate or without exaggeration --- just as your limited portrayal of the facts provides a skewed assessment of what has occurred.

Hi Cherie.

I mentioned this in my first blog post about the UFO, but after I saw it I Googled "star-shaped UFO" and immediately got a result that exactly matched my UFO's shape:

http://www.ufoevidence.org/cases/case653.htm

The difference is I saw mine in broad daylight and it appeared black against the blue sky. I believe it passed nearly over my house, at around 1000 feet. I had a very good look at it. Surprisingly good, when I think about it.

Also, please send me a link to your sighting so I can learn more! What I'd really like most now is to talk with others who have seen them. Thanks for visiting!

There is no "flying squirrel" or 'turkey buzzard" shape listed on the NUFORC website :) -- would you call it a triangle or chevron? This seems to be one of the most frequently reported shapes of UFOs. I don't count most of the sightings of LIGHTS as too many people looking up at the sky have never seen the stars before, or don't look carefully enough to see that it could be a plane.

Anyway, my sighting is from 1975 or 1976, a matte black chevron if that is the stylized shape of the communicator in ST:TNG, hovering silently. I've posted it on the NUFORC site. I would agree "not extra-terrestrial" but then I've been told that the US military did not have aircraft that could hover silently at that time!
