Dream adventures

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Well, last night didn’t offer the excitement that the night before did, fortunately for my family. Travis did get up twice but there didn’t seem to be any reason for it. He told us this morning that he didn’t remember getting up and didn’t remember having bad dreams last night. And I witnessed no doors opening by themselves, so that is a good thing. Travis did seem to miss not having Hallie in the house, though, as she was out on a sleepover last night. I can understand that.

What did happen was that Travis awoke at 2:30 AM and was shuttled back to his room by Kelly. I got up to go to the bathroom in the meantime. When I returned to bed I never completely settled in, keeping one ear out for the telltale footsteps indicating Travis was awake again. I flopped around bed for almost an hour, stuck in the unusual but enormously rich and productive state of mind-awake-body-asleep.

Dream steps

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

In a more positive development, one night last weekend I had a dream-filled night. One of the dreams featured a house with a large marble staircase. The stairs appeared unusually narrow, and in the dream I studied them for this reason.

Thursday night, I returned from a trip to Chicago right before a powerful thunderstorm let loose. It was actually one of the scariest landings I’d ever been in: the crosswind was so strong that the wings of the plane were not level until about 5-10 feet above ground. I had actually begun wondering if our landing would hurt when a voice inside of me said to trust things would work out. And they did.

The forgotten race dream

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Early this morning I had an unusual dream. An unseen guide took me to a darkened place where I was offered a chance to meet some alien creatures that lived on our planet. I was warned that I had to be brave as what I was about to see would seem shocking. Having faith in my escort, I nodded and was then “immunized” with some sort of shot. We proceeded down this metal staircase into an underground labyrinth.

There were countless humanoid creatures here, small in stature. They had prominent eyes (glasses?) and very clearly expressed desperation at their situation. They wanted to reach the surface but this was too dangerous. I felt very sorry for them, though I knew there was nothing I could do. Without comment my escort brought me back out of this place.

An insect near my nose awoke me from the dream. As my attention returned to the room, I clearly heard a voice quietly say “hey Mark.” My wife was asleep next to me and though she sometimes talks in her sleep, she almost never calls me by my name. Nor did the voice seem to echo from our bedroom walls: it seemed to have been in my head. I wasn’t alarmed so much as curious.

The clock read 12:58 AM. I spent a minute looking around the room, wondering about the dream and who might have called my name.

Turning up the volume

Friday, July 31st, 2009

As I was listening to Larry Dossey, MD, speak about his new book, The Power of Premonitions, something clicked in my head. I’ve been following remote viewing for a few years now, and have had psychic moments off and on throughout my life. I’ve read books about the power of psi. Most of this material describe how it works when psi is functioning well. Little of it talks about what it takes to get there.

Dr. Dossey’s new book opens with the statement that one of the best things one can do to improve one’s psi abilities is to take up meditation. I wasn’t intrigued by this but didn’t yet make the connection.

Weather dreams

Monday, April 6th, 2009

I’ve long seen tornadoes in my dreams and used them as lucid dream triggers. They usually work well as triggers as my dream self easily recognizes that I’ve never before seen them in waking life.

I’ve noticed that these tornado dreams seem to precede severe weather events, usually ones threatening enough to spawn tornadoes. Now I wonder if the tornadoes I see in my dreams may be a mental weather forecast rather than a simple sign I’m dreaming!

The grandparent dream

Monday, April 6th, 2009

My grandmother died a few years ago after living to a fine age of 92 years. She was a widow for the last 30 of those years, living alone (and reasonably happy) right up to the end.

Since her passing my grandmother has occasionally appeared as a character in my dreams. Rarely do I get the sense that it’s really her, though: most of the time she appears more as a face in a crowd, so to speak. Or it could be that our communication occurred on a much deeper level and what remained in my groggy conscious mind was simply jumbled snippets.

World leader dreams

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I don’t know why, but for some reason I’ve dreamed about hanging out with world leaders the past two nights. The night before last my dream had me spending a day hanging out with President-elect Barack Obama. He struck me as a very wise man.

Last night’s dream had a different tone. I was a guest of Queen Elizabeth’s at one of her castles. She apparently took a liking to me because I wasn’t a spoiled brat like most of the family and friends who she typically deals with.

I didn’t have deep conversations with the Queen like I did with Obama, but I did find it cool that she let me scuba dive in her giant, floor-to-ceiling aquariums. Until my dream I had no idea the Queen had private, giant indoor aquariums one could scuba dive in. Thanks, Lizzie!

The radiant energy dream

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

I woke up this morning with a dream lodged in my head. Lately it seems I’ve had difficulty remembering many dreams so I found this notable.

In the dream I was in some kind of building or shack filled with radio racks and equipment. I was somehow threading a cable up through the ceiling and the cable was somehow supporting itself as it went up. It was a very, very long cable that stretched for miles.

As I unspooled the cable I suddenly began to get fearful of being electrocuted. I’d forgotten all about the large high-voltage power lines next to the building. I hoped the cable wouldn’t be blown sideways where it might come in contact with the lines. The dream ended somwhere around that point.

Later today I recalled Nikola Tesla’s patent for a Radiant Energy Collector: a device very similar to the cable I dreamed about. Then there’s the space shuttle tether experiment that briefly generated electricity before the cable melted. I also remember something someone allegedly found with solar cells – that they collected energy not just from sunlight but from something else, too. The “cosmic rays” Tesla mentioned?

I wonder if my dream was meant to prod me into some research. I need to come up to speed with electrical theory but it does sound interesting.

Meeting the Romulans

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

In a dream last night I encountered a benevolent, human-like race of people. Their name consisted of seven-letter word that I first thought began with an “N” but woke up thinking “Romulan.” Which of course got me thinking I watched too many Star Trek episodes as a kid.

Anyway, the Romulan people look human-like in every respect except for their eyes. When a Romulan looks at you it seems he looks right through you. I think the intelligence or something in their eyes is a bit startling. If one is not the object of that gaze one mightd never discern a Romulan from an Earth human.

I met the one Romulan gentleman on his home planet (or ship, for all I know) and found him to be extremely friendly and open, patiently answering all of my questions about their history. When I realized that Romulans could easily walk among us on Earth, my host nodded with an acknowledging grin.

I was somewhat lucid during this dream, too: enough that I thought to remind myself to capture as much of this upon waking as I could. So here it is. Normally my lucid dreams don’t include interactions with other personalities so I find this one intriguing.

I hope to meet the Romulans again and explore more of their world.

Uncle dream

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

I woke this morning with a dream in my head in which I saw my late Uncle Don. I did not interact with him much: it seemed he was more a character in my dream rather than the real, live person I knew.  I woke with the dream fragments in the back of my mind and went on about my day.

Fast forward to the evening. I’ve been taking a weekly class which showcases the services that the City of Raleigh offers its citizens. Tonight’s presentation was on Raleigh’s Community Development services. I was enjoying the presentation of the director of the program when someone in the room said something humorous. Right then, the director began to laugh.

I noticed it instantly: he had the same distinctive laugh my uncle had! It was then that I noticed that at certain angles he had an uncanny resemblance to my uncle!

I chuckled through the rest of the presentation, realizing the “uncle” I’d seen in my dream was standing right before me.
